History

My first concerts on a professional basis happened in 1976. A year later I formed a group with Pakistan and Indian musicians living in Oslo. May be the first Oslo-world-music-band ever?  In 1982 Eric Wøllo, Rob Waring and I established the oboe-guitar-vibraphone trio “Wiese-Wøllo-Waring”.
These pages are for the most part about solo live electronics. After two years of preparations the first public performance took place in Torino in august 1987. From 1993 till 2007 I had a long break. In that period I played only for maintenance. Then, in December 2004, I decided to take up performing again.
To my advantage David Strunck was appointed solo oboist with The Oslo Philharmonic soon after. He helped me reform the way I used to play the oboe. I also redesigned the gig rig and restructured the combination of electronic instruments that I had used for performances earlier on.

“Later on Tuesday, Jan Wiese of Norway presented a unique program that depended on the merging of the sounds of synthesizers with those of the oboe and English Horn. The synthesizers are controlled by a system of foot pedals which make it possible for Mr. Wiese to in effect accompany himself. The “choreography” involved in this almost hour-long program, together with the remarkable oboe-playing stamina and virtuosity, was really awe-inspiring and often hypnotic”.
Daniel Stolper - “International Double Reed Society Journal”, 1987
